Pond Walks

Welcome to the Illiana Garden Pond Walk 2005

Inhabitants: 5 large koi, shubunkins, goldfish and several frogs.

The owners have designed and installed 3 ponds on this hilltop lot. The first (12' x 5' and 3' deep and approximately 1500 gallons) was installed in 1996 and is the largest. It features a homemade filtration system using a 100-gallon Rubbermaid water trough.

The second, installed in 1998, is the smallest (4' x 7' and 20" deep and 500 gallons) and has 2 waterfalls.

The newest pond (10' x 5' and 2' deep and 900 gallons) was installed in 2004. The large pond is home to 5 large Koi (24" and 10 pounds each) along with numerous Shubunkins, goldfish and frogs. The other ponds have year old goldfish and frogs.

The ponds are surrounded by tropical plants including sego palms, Madagascar palms, black taro and elephant ears. There are several exotic lotus planted in their own 2' deep bogs. The gardens include a variety of heirloom plants including Amaranthus, Love Lies Bleeding, Summer Poinsettia, Lisianthus, Heliotrope, several varieties of Coleus and Caladiums and a large collection of Taro and Elephant Ears.
