Pond Walks
Welcome to the Illiana Garden Pond Walk 2006
Merrillville, Indiana
Pond #10
There are 2 Ponds accompanying each other. The first one was built in the 1960's and is approximately ¾ of an acre. The 2nd pond (show tank) was built and designed by Randy in spring 2005 and is approximately 5000 gallons (12x12x4) and consists of a 2 tiered cascading waterfall. The ¾ acre pond sits on an 8 acre parcel, overtaking the front yard and is the home of 1000's of koi ranging in size from 3 inches to 20 inches. The best view is atop of the 8 foot high observation deck where the koi hover down below awaiting their next feeding. Lots of bullfrogs reside there as well. You may hear one of the three resident owls hooting, or see an occasional king fisher doing a fly by. The show tank consists of many of our favorite koi, approximately 20 of them ranging in color from platinum white to lemon to an all black butterfly. The middle tier consists of a few "jumpers", water lilies and a bullfrog or two. The final tier is the bog with quite a variety of water plants. The unique design of this show tank is that the cascading waterfalls come after the tank and flow into the big pond.
