Welcome to the Illiana Garden Pond Walk 2006
Crown Point, Indiana
Pond #12
The butterfly and hummingbird garden in the front yard was built by Gardens on the Prairie late in 2005, along with part of the area immediately surrounding the pond. Both front and back yards feature new high-tech lighting. The pond lies in a tree-shaded backyard, nestled in the NW corner through which a rock-lined waterfall cascades over a series of diversions. Residents include Koi, Goldfish and Leopard Frogs. We found the original depth too shallow, so we had it reconstructed in early 2005 by Neptune Aquatics. It is now 14' by 11' and is 36" deep at its center point, holding roughly 1000 gallons and flowing 3000 gph. Flagstone walkways also ring the house and porch/deck that forms the east wall of the pond area, and the rest of the backyard is full of various types of annual and perennial mini-gardens.
