Pond Walks
Welcome to the Illiana Garden Pond Walk 2007
Crown Point, Indiana
Pond #7
The pond was created in 1998 through 2004 and was designed and built by the owner. What makes the pond unique is that it is not so much a pond but a cascading creek. It appears to come from off the property, runs through the yard and then off the property again. It begins in a springhouse tucked among bushes and under a large oak tree. The creek then cascades sown a gentle slope and widens into a series of basins. The largest basin houses 40 goldfish. The creek bottom is blue slate flagstone in a stair step fashion and the sides are lined in Wisconsin fieldstone, pebbles and plantings. The surrounding garden has influence. The garden begins by entering through a covered gatehouse with wooden framed bamboo gates. Inside are stone lanterns, a bamboo fountain and basin, a dry creek with a stepping stone path and a Machiai (covered sitting bench). It's a garden for strolling and sitting.
