WHAT WE DO: At our our monthly meetings, we educate and answer questions about ponds, water plants and fish. We discuss upcoming events and we usually have one of our knowledgeable members tell us about how to do something such as growing and caring for dwarf fruit trees or we may have a speaker from outside our group tell us about another interesting topic.

Past community service projects include, the renovation and reconstruction of a 40x40 foot pond at Homer Iddings Elementary School in Merrillville, Indiana. This pond serves as an outdoor science lab for students and faculty alike, as well as for the beautification of the school property. We have continued this program at Morton High School and Lincoln Elementary School located in Indiana. Strong parental support has lead to a full blown outdoor science lab.

As a group of very enthusiastic "Ponders," we have participated in the Chicago Flower and Garden Show, The Lake County Indiana Home and Garden Show, Porter County Show and Highland Garden Show. During the summer of 1997, this organization sponsored their first pond tour in Northwest Indiana and Northeast Illinois. Due to the success of the annual pond tours, we are planning our 13th pond tour in the summer of 2010. "Ponders" discusses and plans for events such as these and many more. In the spring and summer we have plant swaps and you can learn how to take care of these plants from the members who are giving the plants away.

Do you know how to grow Lotus plants? We do, so come to our next meeting and find how to create a Lotus bog and start growing these interesting water plants in you yard.
